Why Do We Treat Our Cars Better Than Our Own Bodies?

Hey Tucson friends and neighbors! Geon here, your local shoe guy and former engineer from JGP USA over on Oracle Road.
I was thinking the other day—when we get new tires for our cars, we always make sure to check the wheel alignment, right?
We know that if the alignment is even slightly off, the tires wear out unevenly, the steering wheel shakes, and the whole suspension takes a beating. Changing the tires doesn't really fix the problem if the alignment is still messed up.
Well, as a former mechanical engineer, I can tell you our bodies work exactly the same way!
Our feet are our tires. If your foundation (your arches) starts to collapse, your whole body alignment gets thrown out of whack. Your knees and lower back have to work overtime to keep you standing straight—and that's usually where that mystery joint pain comes from.
The "Squishy Shoe" Trap
When our feet or knees hurt, our first instinct is to buy the softest, thickest-cushioned shoes. It makes sense, right? But think about this: If your house is leaning, you wouldn't stick a soft pillow under the foundation to fix it. It might feel nice for a second, but it actually makes the house more unstable.
To fix a falling arch, you don't need a super squishy foam pad. You actually need the right amount of firmness, and more importantly, the right shape.
Think of a cast for a broken arm—it’s molded perfectly to push the bone back into its proper place so it can heal. That’s exactly how the shoes I work with are designed. They use that ideal, firm shape to gently guide your misaligned feet back into their natural, healthy posture.
University lab tests proved that when your feet are supported by that right kind of firmness, your whole body alignment falls into place. As a result:
- Your core strength goes up by 5%
- Your walking stride gets about 3.4 inches longer naturally
- It even helps fix that "slouched neck" posture by straightening your spine from the ground up!
If your legs feel heavy or your back is aching, your alignment might be trying to tell you something.
Next time you're driving down Oracle Road, pop into the store. Let's grab a cup of coffee, and I’ll do a completely free footprint test for you. The manual print that shows us exactly how you're balancing your weight.
I'll also show you a fun 10-second balance trick. You'll feel firsthand how just a little bit of the right firmness under your feet instantly changes your whole posture. (Zero pressure to buy anything, I just love helping my neighbors walk a little lighter!)
Quick question for you all:
When you buy walking shoes, do you usually look for the softest ones, or do you prefer something firm? Let me know in the comments!
Have a great weekend, Tucson!
Geon.
