Why Are the Soles on These Two Shoes Different Heights?

Why Are the Soles on These Two Shoes Different Heights?

Hi Casas Adobes and Tucson neighbors! Geon here from JGP USA on Oracle Road.

Take a look at the photos. You’ll notice that the sole on the right shoe is much thicker than the one on the left. That’s not a manufacturing defect. It’s intentional.

Custom sole height for a leg length difference

At JGP USA, we offer custom sole height modifications for people who need a shoe lift to accommodate a difference in leg length. Every pair of our shoes is handcrafted, giving us the flexibility to tailor details like sole height to the wearer’s needs.

Inside the shoe or outside the sole?

For someone who needs extra height on one side, there’s more than one way to adapt a shoe. An insert inside the shoe can be one option, but there’s only so much room available. Adding too much height inside can crowd the foot or leave the heel sitting too high.

Adding height to the outside of the sole offers another option, providing additional lift without taking up space inside the shoe.

A matching pair does not have to be identical

Seeing shoes like these reminds me that a “matching pair” doesn’t always have to be identical. Sometimes, thoughtful shoemaking means making the two sides a little different to better meet the wearer’s needs.
