"It's a Shock. I Cannot Believe It." A Knee Pain Story From Our Tucson Store

A local woman with chronic knee pain walked into our Tucson store after noticing our window decal. She had already tried custom insoles and other treatments without success. The moment she stood up and took a few steps in a pair of our slippers, her knee pain disappeared, and she kept walking around the store for 30 minutes. Here is what happened, and what I can and cannot say about it as an engineer.
Hey Tucson! Geon here, your local shoe engineer at JGP USA.
A surprising moment at our Tucson store
Recently, I shared that foot, knee, and lower back discomfort was the #1 complaint I heard at the Senior Expo. Now I want to share a quick story that happened right here in our store that perfectly shows why this happens.
Not long ago, a local woman was walking by our store. She had been struggling with chronic knee pain for a long time. She had already tried various custom insoles and other treatments with no success. Then, she noticed our window decal and thought it might be worth checking out, so she decided to walk in.
After a brief chat about how our structural shoes work, I handed her a pair of our slippers just to test out.
What happened next surprised even her. The moment she stood up and took a few steps, her knee pain disappeared. She ended up walking around the store for 30 minutes, repeatedly saying, "It's a shock," "It's amazing," and "I cannot believe it."
Our shoes are not magic: an engineer's honest view
Now, I want to be completely objective as an engineer: our shoes are not "magic," and they do not automatically cure every single knee problem.
While every case is different, I cautiously suspect her discomfort was closely tied to an alignment issue. I believe that stepping onto a supportive, balanced foundation helped improve her alignment, which in turn eased the pressure on her knees. As I mentioned in my last post, if you have chronic pain in your knees, lower back, or ankles, the root cause is very often your foot balance.
How can foot balance affect your knees?
Your knees sit between your feet and your hips, so they feel it when the foundation under them is unstable. Your muscles and joints then work overtime to keep you balanced, the "invisible workout" I described in Why You Are So Exhausted at 8 PM: Shoes for Standing All Day. If you are curious about your own balance, What Your Footprint Is Trying to Tell You shows how a simple footprint reveals where your weight lands.
My invitation to you: a 10 minute slipper test on Oracle Road
If you've tried everything else and still feel discomfort, you don't have to just live with it. Please stop by the store at 6458 N Oracle Rd. You don't need to buy anything. Just put on a pair of our slippers for 10 minutes, walk around, and see how your knees and back feel.
Know someone who struggles with knee pain or stands all day? Feel free to share this story with them.
